Educating young minds, preparing young hearts,
and nurturing young souls in a Christian environment.
      A world of opportunities await your child and the Big Wood School can help you prepare your youngster for his/her journey. At the Big Wood School we provide a strong educational foundation in a loving environment that emphasizes Christian values.

     Our goals for the children are that they:

§      Become increasingly aware of God’s presence in our world;
§      Grow in love for God and each other;
§      Develop a healthy self-image;
§      Develop social and life skills that will lead them to accept and be accepted;
§      Develop their gifts of language, listening, observing, perceiving, and problem-solving; and
§      Build upon their large and small motor skills.

The Big Wood School embraces the best practices in the field of early childhood education and is proud to offer well-researched curriculum from The Wright Group, Math Their Way and Group Publishing.

     The Big Wood School is located at the Presbyterian Church of the Big Wood – 100 Saddle Rd. Ketchum, ID (208)726-9053. The school is specially equipped to meet the needs of young children and is licensed by the State of Idaho.

      Morning programs are provided for 2 yr. olds, 3 yr. olds, and pre-kindergarten. The kindergarten program is full time. Children are involved in small groups which focus on the use of manipulative and experiential learning for concept and physical development. Social and emotional skills are promoted through the development of life skills and manners, loving mentoring relationships with Christian teachers, supervised play, and the use of the Positive Discipline program (Jane Nelsen, et al) – providing positive choices, developing respect for each other, using natural and logical consequences, developing problem solving abilities, and the use of class meetings.
      Communication with parents is provided both formally and informally to parents through conferences and newsletters. Children’s church is held daily before lunch and involves a variety of ways to experience God’s great love – music, video, and station activities.
